Italy possesses a combination of geographic, operational, and relational advantages that no other European country can replicate in the wider Mediterranean region. The issue is not a lack of strategic resources, but rather the absence of an organized vision to direct and leverage them. Transforming “Italian Mediterraneanism” from a historical vocation into a state strategy is the political challenge of this era.
