He holds a Marie Curie Double PhD from the University of Hamburg and LUISS Guido Carli, where his doctoral thesis addressed the role of European civil society organizations in global governance. Currently, Valeriani works as the Scientific Coordinator at CISS, leading research on foresight, intelligence and scenario analysis. He is deeply engaged in teaching and research, having designed and delivered courses such as Analytic and Foresight Techniques for International Relations, Political Risk Analysis, and International Politics and Business at LUISS, in addition to courses at the American University of Rome and the University “L’Orientale” in Naples.
Valeriani’s academic interests lie at the intersection of structured analytic techniques, scenario analysis, and the strategic dimensions of Italian and international foreign policy. He is the creator and director of the wargame “Global Tensions” , a tool used at CISS both in research and education to explore the impact of wargaming on international relations. In his research, he has contributed to the study of non-state actors, climate tech, city diplomacy, and intelligence analysis, publishing in peer-reviewed journals and edited volumes, including works on political risk and intelligence in international relations. His recent work addresses the challenges and opportunities for transnational city networks during global crises, the use of artificial intelligence in political risk analysis, and the integration of foresight methods in strategic studies.
