Angelino Alfano has served as Minister of Justice (2008–2011), Minister of the Interior (2013–2016), and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (2016–2018), making him the first Italian politician to have held all three of these key cabinet positions. As Minister of the Interior, Alfano chaired the National Committee for Public Order and Security and was actively involved in counter-terrorism, the fight against organized crime, and the management of migration flows, especially during the Mediterranean migrant crisis.
In his role as Foreign Minister, he led Italy’s diplomatic efforts on the international stage, including chairing the United Nations Security Council and the G7 Foreign Ministers’ meeting in 2017, and serving as President of the OSCE in 2018. Alfano’s work has consistently focused on addressing security challenges, promoting economic diplomacy, and strengthening Italy’s strategic position in Europe and the Mediterranean. He currently contributes to international law and strategic studies as Of Counsel at BonelliErede, where he specializes in public international law, economic diplomacy, and security-related compliance matters.
