AfroLatAmLAB

The new Laboratory is established as a research and innovation hub dedicated to strategic and cross-cutting themes for the international cooperation activities of CISS, with a particular focus on Africa and Latin America. By adopting a multidisciplinary approach, the Laboratory aims to develop research, training, and capacity-building initiatives in collaboration with similar institutions and centers abroad. Its goal is to generate a positive impact on civil society, strengthen local capacities, and promote peace and human security, while also contributing to the financial sustainability and international expansion of CISS.

The Laboratory seeks to explore crucial research topics, including International Mediation, Public Diplomacy, Conflict Mitigation and Resolution, with a particular focus on Peacebuilding in African and Latin American contexts. With the objective of mapping and identifying Italian excellence in these areas, the Laboratory aims not only to strengthen capacities in Public Diplomacy, Mediation, and Peacebuilding through enhancement and training processes, but also to network Italian expertise at the European level—with particular attention to Track II diplomacy in international crises. In this context, CISS is a candidate to join the 3IM – Italian Initiative on International Mediation, an initiative that, in collaboration with the Directorate General for Political and Security Affairs (DGAP) of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI), is establishing a Roster of mediators, known as the RIMI project (Italian Network for International Mediation).
